Wentworth teen in critical condition after Christmas Day shooting
A 17-year-old Wentworth boy remains in hospital after being shot in a suspected gang-related attack on Christmas Day.
A youngster from Wentworth is fighting for his life in hospital after he was shot and injured in a suspected gang-related incident on Christmas Day.
According to Southlands Sun, the incident occurred in Woodville Road in Wentworth.
Police sources said the 17-year-old victim was walking along the road when unknown gunmen opened fire on him.
He managed to flee, sustaining a gunshot wound to the face and arm.
Condition and investigation
The victim was transported to Wentworth Hospital, where he is reported to be in a stable condition.
“The police recovered numerous spent pistol cartridges on the scene and investigations are underway,” a source said.
Prior police operation
Prior to the shooting, Durban Metro Police and members of the Wentworth Police Station conducted a joint operation in Wentworth where three illegal structures were demolished.
“These structures were [allegedly] used as smoking rooms by drug addicts. After numerous complaints from the community it was discovered that these structures were not used for housing, but involved in the illegal drug trade,” the source said.
The suspects are still at large. Police in Wentworth are investigating a case of attempted murder.
