West Rand woman collapse and dies while walking

An inquest docket has been opened after a woman collapsed and died while walking on a street in Davidsonville, Roodepoort, on the West Rand.

Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo said the cause of the woman’s death, who is believed to have been in her early 20s, was still unknown, Roodepoort Record reported.

“After she collapsed on Tuesday, two men rushed to her aid and contacted the emergency services, but she was declared dead on the scene,” added Khumalo.

She said the woman’s identity could not be released, as her next-of-kin had not yet been informed.

In a separate incident, an unidentified man collapsed and died on the pavement of Bell Street in Noordheuwel, Krugersdorp, on the West Rand earlier this month.

Krugersdorp police spokesperson Constable Tshepiso Mashale said the victim was apparently walking with his friends when he started vomiting. He then collapsed on the pavement. Paramedics were called, and the victim was certified dead on the scene.

A witness sitting on the corner of Bell Street and Shannon Road said two men who were collecting rubbish for recycling were crossing Bell Street when one suddenly collapsed at the intersection and started coughing up thick blood.
