Woman dies after being hit by own car

A case of culpable homicide is under investigation after a woman was run over by her own car in White River, Mpumalanga.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Gerald Sedibe said the woman was reportedly taking something out of her boot on Wednesday morning when the car moved backwards and ran her over, White River Post reported.

“It is suspected that the brakes were not properly applied. She died on the scene,” Sedibe added.

In a separate incident, a woman’s leg was broken after she was allegedly run over by a car during a suspected road rage incident in Roodepoort, on the West Rand.

The incident happened after a man was driving behind the victim on Ontdekkers Road at about 11.30am last month. Suddenly, he lost his temper and followed her. She turned into CR Swart Drive, and at the entrance of Wilrogate Shopping Centre he stopped behind her.

According to a family member, the man allegedly got out of his vehicle and approached the woman’s vehicle in an aggressive fashion. The woman also got out with a baseball bat in order to defend herself. The man fled the scene but then ran her over and drove on.

The woman’s leg was broken just above her ankle at a 45-degree angle.

ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw confirmed the incident, saying: “Paramedics responded to scene and treated the victim”.
