Woman murdered in Gauteng township: Investigation underway

A woman who operates a loan business from her home was found stabbed and gasping for air, while another woman was pronounced dead at a house robbery scene.

Evaton police are investigating a case of murder, attempted murder and house robbery following a tragic incident in Evaton West Ext 11.

Evaton is located north of Sebokeng in Gauteng.

According to police spokesperson Constable Thulisile Msibi, at 11:30 last Wednesday police responded to a call about a murder and house robbery.

When they arrived at the scene, they were informed by the victim’s husband that his 62-year-old wife and 88-year-old mother-in-law were inside the house.

“The 62-year-old woman, who operates a loan business from the same address, had asked her husband to go to Evaton Mall to buy groceries. When he returned, he found the living room door closed. Upon entering, he noticed the carpet was wrapped and upon unfolding it, he saw bloodstains leading to the bedroom,” says Msibi.

The husband followed the blood trail and discovered his wife lying on the bedroom floor, facing upwards.

Msibi says the victim’s face was injured and swollen and she had stab wounds below her chin and in her head. She was bleeding heavily and gasping for air and was taken to Sebokeng Hospital for treatment.

“Tragically, the mother-in-law was found lying next to her daughter. She had a swollen face, a stab wound near her collarbone and a fracture on the left side of her head. Emergency services arrived but were unable to save her. She was pronounced dead at the scene,” says Msibi.

The house had been ransacked and an undisclosed amount of money and other valuables was stolen.

No arrests have been made.

A case has been opened at Evaton Police Station for further investigation.
