A man accused of shooting his wife in the thigh has been released from hospital and appeared in court for attempted murder.

A man accused of shooting his wife in the thigh has been released from hospital.

Middelburg Observer reports that Success Moriri (56) was under police guard while in hospital. He suffered a stroke after his arrest on Monday evening.

He was discharged yesterday and transported to the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court, where he appeared on a charge of attempted murder.

His case was postponed to Wednesday for a formal bail application.

It is alleged that Moriri shot his wife on Monday evening at their home in Pienaarsrivier Street, Aerorand.

The complainant told police she had gone out with a friend to a restaurant and, upon returning home, noticed her bedroom door was locked with her husband inside.

She said she went to a spare room to put down her bags and received a phone call from her friend, confirming she had arrived home safely.

She alleged her husband then entered the room, snatched her phone, hit her in the face, and broke the device.

Soon after, she was shot in the thigh, allegedly by him.
