Man accused of shooting wife makes first court appearance

He appeared on charges of attempted murder.

The man who is accused of shooting his wife in the thigh has been released from the hospital.

Success Moriri (56) was under police guard whilst in hospital. He allegedly suffered a stroke after his initial arrest on Monday evening.

He was released from the hospital yesterday (Thursday) and transported to the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court.

He appeared on charges of attempted murder.

His case was postponed to next Wednesday for a formal bail application.

It is alleged that Moriri shot his wife on Monday evening in their home in Pienaarsrivier Street, Aerorand.

The complainant told the police that she went out with her friend to a restaurant, and when she returned home, she noticed her bedroom door was locked and her husband was inside.

The woman said she went to a spare room to put down her bags and received a phone call from her friend telling her she was home safe.

The woman said her husband entered the room, snatched her cellphone, hit her in the face, and broke her phone.

Soon after that, the man allegedly shot her in the thigh.
