Middelburg: Woman whips boy for allegedly stealing her cellphone

According to the woman, her phone was grabbed while waiting for a taxi.

A 17-year-old boy received an old-school whipping for allegedly stealing a cellphone. The incident happened in Wicht Street in Eastdene at about 15:00 on Wednesday.

The complainant told the Middelburg Police that she and her colleague had been waiting for a taxi.

According to the woman, she was holding her cellphone in her hand trying to put it in her bag, when one of the bystanders grabbed it and ran away.

The two women chased the suspect and whipped him with a belt, as evident in a video recording of the incident.

It is reported that the woman’s cellphone has not been retrieved and that the suspected boy denied stealing it.
