Worker killed at construction site in South Coast
It took the medical team about three hours to remove the deceased trapped under the building rubble.
Absolom Ndwalane (42) was killed after a wall collapsed at a construction site in Manaba, last Friday.
Two other workers were seriously injured and taken to hospital.
Paramedics from Netcare 911 and Medevac attended the scene.
“It was a risky operation. We used a TLB, spades and our hands to lift and remove the rubble to get the man’s body out. At the same time, we had to ensure the embankment didn’t collapse on top of us.” he said.
Simon Poole of Robertson and Poole Construction said the directors and management of the company are deeply saddened by the passing of one of their employees.
“Our heartfelt condolences and sympathies go out to the bereaved family and friends of the deceased. We can confirm that there was a meeting with the deceased’s family at their home over the weekend.”
Poole said they can further report that after a visit to the hospital, both the injured employees are in good spirits and recovering well.
The law enforcement agencies and state departments are investigating the incident and Robertson and Poole Construction pledge their full cooperation.
