Working on Fire pilot killed in aircraft accident in Mpumalanga

The aircraft crashed while it was returning from a firefighting operation in Mpumalanga.

A Working on Fire pilot died in an aircraft accident during an aerial firefighting operation near Ngodwana, Mpumalanga, yesterday afternoon.

The incident was confirmed by a Working on Fire spokesperson and Kishugu Aviation’s Linton Rensburg.

“The focus of our efforts at this time is to attend to the needs of the bereaved family and our crews. We are working with the South African Civil Aviation Authority to determine the cause of the accident,” said Rensburg.

Rensburg said that on behalf of Kishugu Aviation, they wished to extend their heartfelt condolences to the family.

The incident was reported at about 16:40 when the aircraft, which was returning from the firefighting operation, crashed, fatally injuring the pilot.

The identity of the deceased is known to Lowvelder but cannot be made public until the next of kin have been notified.
