All-new Mercedes-Benz CLA will arrive as pure EV and hybrid
The new CLA, the first model in an entirely new family of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, will be available with a choice of two drivetrains

Ushering in a new era for the Three-pointed Star brand, Mercedes-Benz touts the upcoming, third-generation CLA, with its modular platform allowing for distinct drivetrains and MB.OS operating system, as one of the most intelligent cars ever built by the company.
The first model of an all-new family of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the new CLA will be offered with the option of two drivetrains: a ‘state-of-the-art’ all-electric setup, which incorporates technology from the EQXX concept, and an internal combustion engine featuring electric assistance in the shape of 48 V technology. The battery-electric powertrain will be coupled with a two-speed transmission, which, Mercedes-Benz says, provides a ‘perfect’ balance between efficiency and ‘sporty’ performance. The internal combustion unit, which forms part of the firm’s MMA vehicle family, will be coupled with a new, electrified transmission.

The CLA will be the first Mercedes-Benz to feature the automaker’s new ‘Mercedes-Benz Operating System’ (MB.OS). The MB.OS setup incorporates an AI-powered MBUX Virtual Assistant. Mercedes- Benz says the fresh operating system, thanks to its ‘natural’ and ‘intuitive’ workings, ‘enhances’ the relationship shared between the car and its driver.
“With the CLA, we are ushering in a new era at Mercedes‑Benz. We will substantially elevate every aspect of what our customers can expect from a Mercedes in this segment. The modular platform allows for maximum flexibility: We can offer the CLA in both a state-of-the-art electric drivetrain version and a hybrid electrified combustion engine version. And our operating system, MB.OS, will make it into the most intelligent car we’ve ever built,” said Ola Källenius, chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
