Alfa Romeo Junior crowned Innovation of the Year
Coming to life amid a naming fiasco, the Alfa Romeo Junior achieved the Innovation of the Year 2025 title by 'Quattroruote' magazine.
The Innovation of the Year 2025 title by Quattroruote magazine, voted on by the Italian magazine’s readership, is crucial for Alfa Romeo as it enters into the fully electric vehicle market. The Junior, previously known as the Milano prior to its official launch, secured 16% of the online vote, surpassing 19 other contenders selected by Quattroruote’s editors.

Despite earning this win in its home country of Italy, this accolade bodes well for Alfa Romeo since the Junior will represent its return to the competitive B-segment. Alfa Romeo is positioning the Junior as the sportiest and most engaging compact car in its class, hoping to reignite the passion sparked by models like the Giulietta and Mito from recent memory. The top-tier electric version boasts an impressive 207kW output, positioning it alongside the performance-focused Giulia, Stelvio, and Tonale Veloce models in trim level, but it will be a tough task getting the diehard Alfisti to opt for fully electric.

Speaking of which, the Junior is available in both hybrid and electric configurations and is aimed at the less traditional audience, seeking a stylish and efficient urban SUV.
The Innovation of the Year award from Quattroruote is a recurring success for Alfa Romeo. The Junior joins a distinguished lineage of six other models that have earned this recognition: The 147, MiTo, Giulietta, Giulia, Stelvio, and most recently, the Tonale in 2023. Unconfirmed at the moment, CAR Magazine speculated in the December 2024 issue that the Junior will make its way to local shores throughout the year. Potentially on the cards is the Elettrica which employs a 54kWh battery and two power derivatives to choose from; 116kW and 410km of range and the 179kW Veloce, which comes with the option of Q4 AWD.
