From what we can make out from the teaser images, the ES90 takes the shape of a coupé-styled SUV, which, bar its sloping roofline, incorporates similar styling as the EX90, which we sampled on the international launch in Los Angeles in 2024. (As a reminder, the latter emissions-free SUV will arrive in South Africa in the first half of 2025.)

Although the Gothenburg-based automaker has yet to reveal such powertrain specifications as the power and torque outputs of the ES90, it has confirmed that the new model will offer an all-electric operating range of ‘up to’ 700km. In addition, the company says the new 800 V electric architecture employed by the ES90 allows for improved performance and efficiency, and faster charging times. The firm claims a 10-minute 350kW DC fast charge provides ‘up to’ 300km of range.
