Modded Suzuki Jimny has the spirit of a 6×6 G-Wagon

A British enthusiast has transformed a standard 2019 Suzuki Jimny into a striking six-wheeled tribute to the Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6.

Not a common sighting on the roads, 6×6 vehicles are a sight to behold particularly when the underpinnings aren’t the traditional choice for the added axle. The Jimny is a peppy off-roader lauded for its compact dimensions that make it a boon in technical courses, but an enthusiast decided the extra axle and wheels would perfect the purpose of the three door model.

The most significant modification was the chassis extension. To accommodate the third axle, sourced from a donor Jimny, the original chassis was lengthened. This required precise cutting, welding and reinforcement to maintain structural integrity. The additional rear axle, while visually impactful, is a non-driven ‘dummy’ axle, purely for aesthetic purposes. Bodywork modifications were equally extensive.

Original Suzuki parts were utilised for the additional rear fender flares, seamlessly integrated to maintain a factory-like finish. Custom metalwork was crucial in crafting the rear cargo area. This involved shaping and welding sheet metal to create a seamless transition from the cabin to the rear, replicating the G-Wagon’s distinct profile.

The exterior was then finished in Audi’s Nardo Grey, a popular choice for performance vehicles. Black alloy wheels, fitted with chunky all-terrain tyres, enhance the off-road aesthetic even further and the spare wheel, mounted on the tailgate, further reinforces the rugged appearance.

Inside, the standard fabric seats and door cards were replaced with quilted black and light grey leather to embody the luxurious spirit of the original 6×6 G-Wagon. A modern Kenwood infotainment system was installed, replacing the factory unit for enhanced connectivity and entertainment options. Under the bonnet, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine remains, producing 75kW and 130Nm of torque. However, plans are in place for a substantial power boost. A turbo kit, featuring a Garrett turbocharger, custom manifolds, uprated injectors and an intercooler, is intended to increase output to 125kW and 270Nm.

The transformation, while visually impressive, prioritises aesthetics over functional performance enhancements since the non-driven third axle and the standard automatic transmission limit any potential gains in off-road capability. Is this hot or not?
