Volvo ES90: A new breed of electric vehicle

Is it a sedan, fastback, or SUV? The Volvo ES90 defies categorisation, offering a unique blend of styles and capabilities.

Volvo’s latest electric vehicle, the ES90, is designed to challenge conventional automotive classifications. Merging the elegance of a sedan, the versatility of a fastback, and the practicality of an SUV, this innovative EV creates its own distinct category.

The ES90 prioritises versatility, comfort, and space, making it ideal for professional and personal use. Powered by next-generation core computers and featuring 800V technology, it offers enhanced performance, rapid charging, and an extended range.

“The Volvo ES90 combines our most advanced technologies with Scandinavian design and superior comfort,” states CEO Jim Rowan. “It cements our position as an industry leader in software-defined cars.”

Design and practicality

The ES90’s profile features a raised ride height for improved visibility, while the flowing roofline enhances aerodynamics and interior space. The front showcases Volvo’s signature Thor’s hammer headlights, and the rear features distinctive C-shaped LED lamps.

A large tailgate hatch and a spacious boot, expandable to 733 litres, provide ample cargo space. A 22-litre frunk adds further practicality.

Interior comfort and technology

Inside, the ES90 focuses on premium comfort with authentic materials and a minimalist Scandinavian design. A 3.1m wheelbase ensures generous legroom, and ambient lighting and upholstery options allow for personalisation.

A panoramic roof with UV protection and an optional electrochromic version enhances the cabin experience. A four-zone climate system with an advanced air purifier ensures a healthy environment.

Superior sound is achieved through low noise levels complemented by a premium Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 25 speakers and Dolby Atmos technology.

The ES90 features a new-generation infotainment system with Google built-in, including Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play. A 5G-capable system, powered by the Snapdragon cockpit platform, provides seamless connectivity.

Advanced technology and safety

Built on the SPA2 architecture and Volvo Cars Superset tech stack, the ES90 allows for over-the-air updates and performance enhancements. Dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configurations provide powerful computing capabilities.

The 800V technology enables rapid charging, adding 300km range in 10 minutes at 350kW fast charging stations, and offers a WLTP range of up to 700km.

Volvo’s commitment to safety is evident in the ES90’s robust safety cage, advanced restraint systems and comprehensive sensor suite, including radars, cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and lidar.

Availability

The Volvo ES90 is now available for order in the UK and select European markets, with wider availability planned for 2026.
