In a thrilling race between man and machine, para athlete Brandon Beack went up against a Ferrari 296 GTS.
Para athlete Brandon Beack went head-to-head against a Ferrari 296 GTS at Killarney International Raceway to raise awareness for the QuadPara Association of South Africa (Qasa) and the Motorsport Legends Benevolent Fund, both of which are charitable beneficiaries of South Africa’s annual touring regularity rally The Cape 1000.

Beack, who was paralysed from the shoulders down in 2012 after breaking his neck while training for a gymnastics competition, is a member of Qasa and has represented South Africa in several international competitions.

“The race against the Ferrari was loads of fun and it was such an exhilarating experience to be next to such a fast car on a race track. What made it even more special was the fact that I was there representing a greater cause in support of Qasa,” says the 26-year-old Beack.
Considered the leading agency representing persons with spinal cord injuries and physical disabilities in South Africa, Qasa is an NPO of quadriplegics and paraplegics. As per its website, the NPO’s aim is to develop products, programmes and services to develop capacity among its members and offer opportunities for societal integration.
Vanessa Crichton, organiser of The Cape 1000, says: “We’ve always believed in supporting worthy causes since the inception of our business. There is a great demand for supporting those in need in South Africa and we realise the importance of doing so through our business.”
The 2025 instalment of The Cape 1000 started on March 16 and runs until Friday.
