Hyundai has revealed the Alcazar for its local SUV line-up, and with it, official pricing and specification. Set to slot between the Creta and more premium Tucson, the Alcazar essentially replaces the Grand Creta.

“The new Hyundai Alcazar personifies our business model. To offer real value at an affordable price to buyers. We showed our intent with the recent launch of the Hyundai Exter and the recently upgraded Hyundai Tucson, where we managed to offer an even lower entry-point to the model range, while significantly upgrading our features,” says Gideon Janse van Rensburg, the CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa.
The South Korean automaker adds that it is a major upgrade from the Grand Creta, and comes with a starting price lower than the model it replaces. Sales and operations director at Hyundai Automotive South Africa Stanley Anderson went on to add that it makes premium family travel more accessible to South Africans.

On the exterior, the Alcazar features Hyundai’s H-style LED DRLs, connected by a centre light bar. The styling ethos continues as quintessentially Hyundai, and includes a sizable front grille and 18-inch diamond-cut wheels. Unlike the Chinese rivals playing in the segment, the model features an oil burner alongside a traditional naturally aspirated ICE. Car Mag has already driven the diesel, find the impressions below. The former is 1.5-litre and includes a turbocharger and is good for 85kW and 250Nm while the latter is a 2.0-litre that outputs 117kW and 191Nm. Both are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, no manuals included. Drive modes can be toggled by a selector and include Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud or Sand.

Hyundai adds that the interior is where the Alcazar shines. Aside from the three rows and seven seats, the second row boasts fold-out tables (in the Elite model only) and all three rows get USB charging. If not hauling kids around, both rear rows fold completely flat, which Hyundai adds turns it into a cargo van in a matter of seconds. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and Anderson adds that physical buttons have remained.
On the Elite model, a panoramic sunroof, customisable LED lighting and vented front seats are always included. Standard across the line-up are six airbags, Isofix anchors and a comprehensive suite of safety features. The Elite model ups the ante with advanced driver assistance features like Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
