Hamer 4×4 toughens up BYD Shark 6 with hardcore off-road kit
Australian tuning specialist Hamer 4×4 has equipped the BYD Shark 6 with steel bumpers, underbody armour, upgraded lighting and all-terrain options.
In a bid to enhance the BYD Shark 6 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) bakkie, Australian off-road accessories and tuning company Hamer 4×4 has handed the Chinese marque’s new-energy double-cab a selection of off-road niceties.
The selection of upgrades made to BYD Shark 6, which we evaluated for a road test in 2025, includes the fitment of front and rear steel bumpers to improve the bakkie’s standard approach and departure angles – the former and latter being 31 and 19.3 degrees, respectively. A duo of LED spotlights is fitted to the front bumper, while customers have the option of specifying a front winch. The front recovery hooks and bash plate are finished in red. A towing kit is included with the upgrades.
Also included in the catalogue of upgrades are additional underbody protection plates, steel side steps and a retractable load bay cover. Chunky all-terrain and mud-terrain tyres are available, as well as a variety of wheel options.
Under the skin, the BYD Shark 6 pictured in this article remains untouched. As a reminder, the Shark 6’s PHEV powertrain pairs a 1.5l, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a pair of electric motors – the latter fed by the automaker’s ‘Blade’ battery pack.
Topping the list of most powerful bakkies in SA, the Shark 6 produces a combined system output of 321kW, with 650N.m of torque delivered to the road via all four corners. On our test strip, the Shark 6 completed the 0-100km/h dash in 5.66 seconds; four-hundredths of a second quicker than BYD’s claim. The firm claims an electric-only operating range of 85km when the 29.6kWh battery is fully charged and a combined driving range of 670km.
