In February 2026, Toyota South Africa confirmed at its ninth annual State of the Motor Industry (SOMI) that a hybrid (HEV) powertrain will be introduced to the local Land Cruiser 300 lineup this year. Available in ZX and GR-Sport specification, the HEV models have officially arrived in SA.

Shared with the Lexus LX 700h, the 1MT-HEV powertrain comprises a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine and a single electric motor – the latter fed by a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery. The HEV setup produces a combined system output of 341 kW and 790 N.m of torque, delivered to the road via an all-wheel drivetrain coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota claims an average fuel consumption of 10 L/100 km, which translates to a range of nearly 1 000 km on a full, 98-litre tank of fuel.

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 price in SA

The Land Cruiser 300 lineup is priced from R1 596 800 for the entry-level, GX-R variant, which is exclusively available with the Japanese automaker’s 3.3-litre V6 turbodiesel motor, to R2 343 800 for the newly introduced GR-Sport HEV flagship. The ZX-spec HEV is priced from R2 287 700.

As a reminder, the non-electrified 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petol unit is endowed with 305 kW and 650 N.m – the former and latter available from 5 200 and 2 000 r/min, respectively. The carmaker claims an average fuel consumption of 12.1 L/100 km for models employing this engine.
