Moving Christmas concert hosted by NG Faerie Glen
A memorable Christmas concert.
NG Gemeente Faerie Glen held a memorable Christmas service on Sunday. Organist/pianist and choir leader, Marina Mentz, took the lead and reconfirmed the congregation’s reputation for magnificent music productions.
According to organiser Elaine Roets, the décor was a dream world in white, created by Joehan Erasmus, with flowers sponsored by Atterbury Value Mart’s Flower World.
The music varied from light-hearted numbers to more serious pieces and conveyed the Christmas message, Roets said.
The evening began with a moving rendition of Koos du Plessis’ composition of Somerkersfees. This was followed by the church choir singing among others a composition by Mozart, I’ll be home for Christmas and Leonard Cohen’s Halleluja.
The choir was joined by organist Wilma Davel, instrumentalists Bambi Heiberg and Liezel Smith and a young soprano. Different instruments were used to guide the choir, such as a trumpet, a drum, a cello and a dulcimer.
There were also readings from the Bible and poetry. Roets said the evening was a great success and the audience was moved by the music.
