Young singer taking Pretoria by storm
A young singer from Centurion is making big waves in the entertainment industry.
A young singer and songwriter from Eldoraigne is making waves in the entertainment industry.
Ruben Lotter, known as Rayne (17), currently a grade 11 pupil at Hoërskool Eldoraigne, is currently performing in the All Directions show at Barnyard theatres across Gauteng and will have a solo show on 26 July at Musiekskuur at the Barnyard theatre in Parkview, Moreleta Park.
“I have always had a passion for music, since before I could talk. My mom says I used to hum in my crib,” he said during an interview with Rekord on Friday.
Rayne taught himself to play the piano at age 14 and the rest is history.
“I took part in the ‘Barnyard Search for Talent’ in 2013, when I won ‘Best Performer 2013’ and ‘Best New Talent 2013’. They contacted me for an audition in 2014, for the ‘Bieber and friends’ show and I got the part,” he said.
“When that ended in December, they contacted me for a spot in the ‘All Directions’ show, which is showing at Barnyards across Gauteng until the end of July.”
Through all the fame and fortune over the last few years, Rayne remains grounded and humble.
“It’s just beyond incredible for me to be able to live my dream at my young age.”
Rayne writes all his own songs, drawing inspirations from iconic artists like John Lennon, Pink, Freddie Mercury, Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson.
“They weren’t just pop idols who sang for the sake of singing, but fought hard for what they believed in and wrote meaningful songs, which I admire,” he said.
“My own writing is mostly about topics I find important, like social issues and problems that need to be solved, like racism and bullying. But I also want to help people who struggle to find out who they really are, since that is something everyone goes through and it can be difficult for some people.”
The singer would like to make his mark internationally one day and make a difference in the world. For more about Rayne, go to https://www.facebook.com/ruben.lotter.1
