Waterkloof learner pepper sprayed in attempted robbery

The men pepper sprayed the learner in an attempt to flee with his valuables.

A man has been arrested attempting to rob a high school learner in the east of Pretoria.

Two men attempted to rob a Waterkloof High School learner who was walking home at about 4pm on Tuesday, Rekord East reported.

Hi-Risk security spokesperson Arthur Crewe said the men ambushed the learner near the water tower between Erasmusrand and Waterkloof.

“There is a shortcut that some pupils take on their way home near Schoongezicht Street and Polaris Avenue.”

Crewe said the men pepper sprayed the learner in an attempt to flee with his valuables.

“One of our patrol vehicles luckily spotted the altercation and reacted.”

He said one of the men fled and the other was arrested.

Crewe said the path was popular for attacks where learners walk from school into the suburbs.

The suspect was handed over to Brooklyn police.
