Two armed suspects were shot and wounded following a theft of a motor vehicle which led to a high-speed chase between the armed robbers and car tracking officials in Centurion, Pretoria.

An eyewitness said a gold Toyota Fortuner was being pursued by the police and shots were fired on the corners of Jean Avenue and Gerhard Street on Wednesday, the Rekord Centurion reports.

The witness said when the Fortuner came to a standstill, a car-tracking official apprehended the driver, who had allegedly been shot.

The passenger, who had also been shot, tried to escape by laying under the vehicle.

He was later also arrested.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed a vehicle had been stolen in Brooklyn in Pretoria.

Dlamini said the tracking company tracked the vehicle to Centurion and a chase ensued.

“The suspects opened fire on the officials and they returned fire, injuring two of the suspects.”
