Chris Chameleon’s ‘right wing views’ trigger Hlomla Dandala

By Kaunda Selisho

Danny K’s call for white South Africans to use their privilege for good has sparked debate across social media, but it has mostly drawn the ire of white South Africans.

The latest coming from fellow singer Chris Chameleon who went on a video tirade in response to Danny’s message.

In a 10-minute video, Chameleon began by explaining why he opted to respond in this way before re-reading Danny’s tweets for context.

He posed a number of questions for Danny K in response to his Twitter thread, starting with the question: “What would be enough white people?” and then demanded statistical support for Danny’s assertion.

According to Chameleon, it has become popular for white people to challenge each other on their racism but he also believed that this approach was “lame” and “weak.”

Chameleon then waxed lyrical about his perceptions about black people and racism before responding to questions Danny posed to him in a Twitter conversation between the pair.

He went on to claim that Danny’s initial tweet had done nothing for social cohesion and had “fanned the flames for hate and vitriol annoyance and every other social pestilence”.

According to Chameleon, “white people in South Africa feel targeted at this stage” and they are increasingly becoming “gatvol”.

The singer does not believe racism is as big of a problem as it seems because his friends are not racist and they “do not sit around and talk racist things”.

The video has been viewed over 4,000 times thus far and it caught the attention of outspoken actor and producer Hlomla Dandala who posted his own video in response.

Taking to Twitter, Dandala tried to fit as much of his rebuttal as he could into the 2-minute 20-second video limit on the platform.

A visibly incensed Dandala opens the video by stating that it was his third take as he had to film the video over and over again as it triggered him every time he tried to respond to Chameleon’s video and the “amount of ignorance” in his statements.

He then countered Chameleon’s points individually.

Chameleon is yet to respond to Dandala’s video but Danny K has seen it and endorsed the message.
