UPDATE: Autopsy results of man found dead in Zoo Lake released
His funeral was held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Braamfontein on Thursday.
Edward Blonski’s funeral was held on 19 July.
The autopsy results for Edward Blonski’s death have been released and his cousin, Jacqueline Wijtenburg, has shared them with the Gazette.
Following the inconclusive results of a state autopsy conducted on Blonski’s body on 17 July, his immediate family commissioned a second autopsy to be performed by a private forensic pathologist, Rosebank Killarney Gazette reported.
“We have learnt that evidence points to him having drowned. What caused him to drown is impossible for the forensic pathologist to determine. In all probability, we will never know and will make our peace with that, over time.
“Police are still investigating, and we will await the full report, and thereafter the courts will conduct an inquest that may, or may not, reveal more answers,” said Wijtenburg.
On 19 July his funeral was held among a large group of family and friends at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Braamfontein.
Blonski had been a volunteer for a number of years in its parish soup kitchen that serves the homeless.
In his eulogy, Fr Matthew Charlesworth related how memorable his kindness was to those he served. So much so, that 12 of the homeless men and women told him that they had arranged search parties to look for him when they were advised at the end of June that he was a missing person.
“There is nothing more we can share with the public now and will now start the journey of private healing,” said Wijtenburg.
