Fleeing suspect leaves his shoes as barking dog wakes Edleen family

The 20-year-old suspect gained entry through the sliding door.

A barking family dog helped a sleeping family of Green Avenue Edleen to foil a burglar’s plans.

A couple of minutes after midnight on Monday, a suspect broke into the home and started removing a heater and speakers from the storeroom, Kempton Express reported.

However, the family’s dog wouldn’t let him jump the wall in peace. It barked until the residents woke up and saw the suspect trying to climb over the wall.

They quickly called Alpha Security and CPF patrollers.

Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Captain Lesibana Molokomme, said the suspect was caught by Alpha Security and the patrollers as he was trying to flee barefoot.

His shoes were found in the storeroom of the home he had broken into.

“The 20-year-old suspect gained entry through the sliding door. His shoes will be used as evidence. The suspect has already appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges of house break-in and theft,” said Molokomme.
