Man, 54, arrested for rape

The alleged victim left the workshop and ran to the police station to lay a charge against the suspect.

It is alleged that a woman, 26, an employee at one of the farms around Letsitele policing area in Limpopo, was busy doing her general labour when she was requested to help her supervisor to take some containers containing diesel to a storeroom at mid-day, Letaba Herald reports.

It is further alleged that while in the storeroom, the suspect took out a screwdriver and threatened the victim with it before raping her.

After the rape, the victim was left at the workshop. She managed to run to the police station to lay a charge against the suspect, who was later arrested.

The suspect will appear at Ritavi Magistrates’ Court today.

This arrest comes after the Tzaneen Cluster Commander Major-General Mathebula tasked police in all the stations within the jurisdiction under her command to take precautionary measures in cases of rape after there was a concern in crime escalation of such nature, which threatened the peace of the vulnerable women and children within the cluster.

Police promise to tighten their hands to ensure that whoever is caught in contravention of the law be dealt with accordingly.

“We will not rest until all the perpetrators are brought to book. We would like to see all women and children walk in this country freely without fear,” Mathebula said.
