McIntyre beats Roos in play-off

Three extra holes were needed to decided the winner of the Vodacom Origins of Golf presented by Samsung event at Vaal de Grace with PH McIntyre coming out on top in a closely fought duel with Jake Roos on Friday afternoon.

McIntyre could have sealed the victory on the 18th green but his birdie putt went right of the cup, and par for each of the players meant that they headed into a play-off with their scores tied at 16-under.

Both players drove to the right of the fairway with their tee shots on the third extra hole and their respective approaches were right at the flag with Roos setting up a 12-foot putt while McIntyre had an eight-footer for birdie.

Roos, who got the first five of his seven tournament wins on the Sunshine Tour via play-offs, made a good effort with his putt but it caught the right lip and went wide. McIntyre stepped up and boxed his attempt to seal a first Tour win.

Five players ended at 12-under-par with Shaun Norris, Steven Ferreira, Jean Hugo, Jaco Ahlers and Tyrone Ferreira ending in a share for third while Wallie Coetsee was one shot back in eighth place. Francois Coetzee, Rhys West and Jared Harvey shared ninth in the R600 000 event after ended on 10-under-par for the tournament.
