Metro and DA officials attacked in PTA

The officials were part of a delegation to open a new cemetery.

The ANC allegedly attacked metro and DA officials during a confrontation in Soshanguve on Monday, Pretoria North Rekord reports .

According to information gathered, people wearing ANC T-shirts stoned several Tshwane cars belonging to metro officials in an attempt to chase “the DA out of Soshanguve”.

The officials were part of a delegation to open the new cemetery Klip-Kruisfontein, but “ANC members” stopped them saying they would not allow the DA-led metro to take credit for the good work started by the ANC.

“This cemetery is for Soshanguve residents, not for people of Cape Town. The DA has no business unveiling a cemetery for the people of Soshanguve,” said councillor Enos Chiloane.

Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga confirmed the attack.

“Our officials were attacked by people wearing ANC T-shirts,” said Msimanga.

“Councillor Katlego Mathebe and MMC Michael Mkhari were there as part of the delegation to open the new cemetery.”

Msimanga said it worried him the attack took place in full view of Tshwane metro police and police personnel, who stood by and did nothing to stop it.

Msimanga questioned if the ANC members understood what Gauteng Premier David Makhura meant when he said “we mustn’t be concentrated on party politics and [rather] work on delivering services to our people”.
