Having penned a promotional deal with Golden Gloves, the Englishman will headline the bill at Emperors Palace on April 23 when he takes on Ghana’s Ishmael Tetteh in a middleweight bout set for 10 rounds.
The long-term hopes of both Murray and his new promoters is an eventual world title shot in the principality of Monte Carlo, with next week’s bout considered a tune-up after a period of inactivity. But the fighter and his connections are excited over the promise that the future holds.
“This is going to be the start of a great journey,” Murray, who jetted into the country along with his family yesterday, said at the official Press conference announcing his arrival.
“As far as next week goes I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll be honest and say that I don’t know much about my opponent, but we train for the range of styles in the gym.
“It’s a fight to get me back into the swing of things,” added the fighter, who boasts a career record of 26-1-1.
The main supporting bout will see junior-welterweight prospects Adam de Moor and Paul Kamanga meet in a highly-anticipated clash, while Grant Fourie and Luyanda Jako meet in another bout in the division.
Heavyweight newcomer Martin Makabu, the brother of rising star Junior, meets Chris Mabombo, while Vhonani Netshidamboni fights Page Tsishane in a clash set for six rounds. Boitshepo Mandawe and Herbert Nkabiti complete the card in a junior-welterweight bout over eight rounds.
