New website helps children read and write

A newly-launched website by a non-profit organisation aims to help parents teach their children to read and write in English while schools remain closed.
The website, www.jollyphonics.ng was launched by Universal Learning Solutions, a UK and South African not-for-profit organisation.
The literacy programme, Jolly Phonics has since 2019, been introduced and implemented in many of the provinces and has proven to raise early grade literacy levels locally and abroad.
Jolly Phonics helps children learn the 42 letter sounds of English and how to blend them together to read words in a fun way.

It has been proven to dramatically raise early grade literacy levels in South Africa and globally.
The CEO of Universal Learning Solutions, Mr. Gary Foxcroft said: “This initiative has been developed as part of our response to helping South African children continue to learn during the Covid-19 crisis. As a parent myself, I know how challenging it can be to home educate children during these unprecedented times. We wish to encourage all parents in South Africa to access the website and use the free materials there to enable their children to read and write with joy.”
