Load shedding to start in Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwean government has announced that load shedding will be implemented as of Monday due to critical power shortfalls. The power cuts are in order to balance the power supply available.
New24 reports that Zimbabwe’s utility supplier, Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company ( ZETDC), said they were forced to cut power at the Kariba Dam power plant due to low water levels. The dam allegedly cannot generate electricity at optimal capacity.
In a statement, ZETDC said they were facing power generation constraints at their Hwange Power Station and, as a result, limited imports from Eskom in South Africa and from Mozambique.
“Please be advised that ordinarily, load shedding will be within the morning and evening peak periods of 5am to 10am and 5pm to 10pm respectively.
“The durations may be longer in the event of increased power shortfall to avoid the collapse of the national electric grid.”
