The Economic Freedom Fighters have upped their game in their bid to force Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene to resign, or be fired.
EFF commander-in-chief Julius Malema yesterday tweeted “it looks like going to the streets to have this guy removed is unavoidable”.
On Friday, the finance minister apologised and asked for forgiveness after failing to disclose that he had met with the controversial Gupta family at their Saxonwold compound over the years while a deputy and finance minister – something that puts his conduct as a public office-bearer in doubt.
Nene’s reputation took a further blow when reports late last week emerged of Nene’s involvement with his son’s business dealings in relation to an investment by the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) in Mozambique.
The EFF have been relentless in their bid to remove Nene from his role.
Nene continues to deny he did anything for the Guptas or was involved in any dodgy dealings.
For a man once considered to be above reproach, Nene has a difficult few decisions to make. We trust he will come clean, or do the honourable thing and leave his post if these claims are found to be true.
