More than R150k stolen after ATM bombing in Mpumalanga

The suspects gained access to the bank after destroying an ATM meant to print out statements.

Police are looking for the suspects who bombed a Standard Bank ATM and escaped with more than R150 000 in Sabie, Mpumalanga.

Sabie police spokesperson Captain Seth Mabilane said the criminals gained access to the bank after destroying an ATM meant to print out statements on Tuesday, Lowvelder reported.

“It looked like someone tipped them off that the particular ATM is not fully mounted to the wall. They used it for access,” he said.

Mabilane said they were still studying the CCTV footage that showed about 10 people committing the crime.

No arrest has been made, and police are investigating a case of business burglary.
