Showtime for 2014 Drak Challenge
South Africa's paddling fraternity will make their way too Underberg in the Southern Drakensberg for this weekend's 21st edition of the 68km Drak Challenge Canoe Marathon.

The event will double up as the South African K1 River Championships for the first time since 2007.
A recent dry spell has seen the water level in the uMzimkulu River drop to a concerningly low level will have paddlers hoping for a last minute thunderstorm in order for the race to commence just above Castleburn and include the Valley of a Thousand Rapids. Otherwise, the race would be shortened by 15km.
Canoe Marathon World Champion Hank McGregor, who missed last year’s race, was adamant he wanted to make the race his own for the fourth time in five years.
Having won the race in 2010, 2011 and 2012, McGregor would be hoping to become only the second person in the history of the race, behind Drak legend Ant Stott, to win the title four times.
Claiming the title in 2013, Grant van der Walt would be looking to halt his doubles and training partner’s run, seeking a second consecutive title, despite having spent little time in the boat over the festive period.
In the women’s race, three-time winner and defending champion Abby Adie will be up against her regular rival Robyn Kime who won the race in 2012.
If all goes well on Saturday and Sunday, the coveted Drak Challenge Trouts will welcome no fewer than 14 new members to their ranks as the likes of Gareth Edmonds, Pooch Ovenstone and others look to notch up Drak finish number ten this year.
