EFF says it is in talks with ANC caucus over Zuma recall

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), South Africa’s third largest political party, announced on its Twitter account on Wednesday that it had postponed an urgent court application to force the Speaker of Parliament’s hand to bring forward a motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma.
“The EFF has postponed its urgent court application for motion of no confidence to be brought forward following engagements with the ruling party caucus in Parliament. The public will be advised as soon as these engagements are concluded,” the tweet read.
The tweet was posted shortly before a caucus meeting of the country’s governing African National Congress kicked off in Parliament.
The meeting, happening behind closed doors, was called following the party’s announcement Tuesday to recall Zuma as the country’s head of state.
When the caucus kicked off, Zuma was yet to respond to the letter of recall. If Zuma does not resign, MPs will have to go the parliamentary route and vote him out of office.
ANC MPs, including members of Zuma’s cabinet, rushed into the meeting, many refusing to the speak to a large contingent of journalists gathered outside the meeting venue.
The EFF has postponed its Urgent Court application for a Motion of No Confidence to be brought forward following engagements with the ruling party caucus in parliament. The public will be adviced as soon as these engagements are concluded.
