#GuptaLeaks: how much the Guptas’ Sun City wedding cost in numbers

According to a report, taxpayers picked up the bill not only for the venue hire and waiters, but also for the Guptas' after-dinner sweeties and morning fruit platters.

New details from the leaked Guptas’ emails have uncovered invoices shedding more light on the controversial family’s lavish taxpayer-funded Sun City wedding in 2013, The Times reports.

In June, amaBhungane and Scorpio reported the wedding was largely paid for through laundered public funds from the Free State’s Vrede dairy project via Dubai. The Guptas’ Linkway Trading (Pty) Ltd –which was audited by KPMG – was key in ensuring the diversion of cash earmarked for the project to reimburse most of the four-day wedding expenses – R30 million, to be exact.

Here are some of the expenses for the wedding taxpayers reportedly paid for:

  • Hazelnut milk Lindor truffles alone set taxpayers back R13 088
  • Linkway Trading billed the Guptas R69 992 for milk, while 600 single scoops of ice cream cost R21 812.62
  • An extra order of milk‚ yoghurt and cream apparently cost R7 258.58
  • Whole cranberries‚ bulk kiwi slices and unknown dessert “ingredients” cost R3 075.92‚ R2 759 and R41 698.69‚ respectively.
  • Golden berries cost taxpayers a further R7 125
  • R473 370.41 was paid for beverages, while general groceries cost roughly R190 000
  • Vegetables are said to have cost R169 652
  • Four hours of pool noodle and water ball hiring costs added up to R6 555.09
  • A fireworks display cost R310 801.52
