Hawks officers and former police constable arrested for fraud – report

It is reported that the officers appeared in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Monday after they were arrested on Sunday.

Three law enforcement officers are facing charges of fraud after they allegedly hatched a scam to defraud a business who needed the services of a private investigator, News24 reports.

The three officers, two from the Hawks and one former police constable, reportedly appeared in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Monday after they were arrested on Sunday.

The three were reportedly each granted R5,000 bail and the matter is due back in court on November 5 as investigations are ongoing.

The two Hawks officers reportedly worked for the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit and were named as Captain Kaizer Mohale (50) and Colonel Emily Hlophe (44). It was reported that the former constable is Steve Mangena (35).

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi was quoted as saying the businessman had paid the three officers a considerable amount of money.

The head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya told the news site that the three should be suspended.
