City of Johannesburg MMC for public safety Michael Sun has the following message for residents this festive season, Randburg Sun reports:

“It has been an exciting year since the DA-led coalition government took office in August 2016.

A lot has happened both in terms of challenges and successes, but the most rewarding for me as the Public Safety MMC is what we have been able to deliver to our Johannesburg residents.

The new government hit the ground running by introducing the Anti-Corruption and Fraud Campaign, JMPD K9 Narcotics Unit and a 24-Hour Traffic Hotline was launched.

We did not stop there and went out to employ an additional 1 500 JMPD trainees, opened a JMPD Satellite Station in Kenilworth, the new Cosmo City Fire Station is soon to be opened, plans are in place to re-vamp the Marlboro Licensing Centre and improve the entire customer experience, added another 232 Metro police officers to JMPD and the list goes on.

We have seen many successes in our Department of Public Safety and many of those are because of our residents’ encouragement and involvement.

As the festive season approaches and many holidaymakers leave or visit Joburg, our JMPD, EMS and Disaster Management officers are once again ready to go out and keep the City safe. We want to remind the residents and visitors to be reasonable during these times and have a Safety-First holiday.

Our efforts to fight crime and ensure speedy emergency, rescue services will not go on holiday. In fact, we will be doubling our efforts to ensure the safety of the visitors and residents.

We know that our work will not be complete without the continued support of our communities and we want to take this opportunity to say “Thank You, Joburg! Have a wonderful festive holiday and be safe on the roads”.

Please keep Joburg’s emergency number handy, call 011 375 5911 in case of an emergency and we will be there.
