Man gets 10 years for stealing cellphone

A knife-wielding robber stole two cellphones from a 22-year-old student in 2016.

Prince “Jacquar” Ndlovu, 46, was found guilty of aggravated robbery in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court.

Ndlovu attacked his victim, who was on the way to church.

“He was spotted by eyewitnesses as he fled into an abandoned building that is occupied by vagrants and was subsequently arrested.

“He was denied bail and has subsequently been in custody since his arrest in July 2016,” said Captain Daniel Mavimbela, police spokesperson.

Mavimbela said the specific abandoned building was known as the “white house” and is seen as a crime hot spot.

“The Sunnyside police will heighten visibility and intensify intelligence-driven crime prevention operations towards reducing crime to its lowest levels in the area.

In the meantime, the police encourage the members of the public to continue reporting suspicious or criminal activities anonymously at Crime Stop on 0860010111 or SMS Crime Line on 32211.
