ANC’s e-toll move proves it’s shady – DA’s Msimanga

The Democratic Alliance is citing the extension of the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) contract with the SA National Roads Agency without public knowledge as proof the ANC is untrustworthy, as electioneering gathers momentum.
Yesterday, the party’s Gauteng premier candidate, Solly Msimanga, said the Austrian company had confirmed that its contract to manage e-tolls had been extended to December 2019.
Msimanga said the extension exposed the insincerity of the ANC’s promise to scrap e-tolls.
“It’s clear the failing ANC has intentionally kept the people of Gauteng in the dark about what is really going on with e-tolls,” he said.
He asked why Minister of Transport Blade Nzimande claimed in 2017 that the contract expires in 2018 and then renewed it a mere six months later.
“The ETC confirmed that its contract to manage e-tolls in Gauteng was extended in April 2017. This contradicts the written reply by the minister in September 2016 that the contract would expire on December 31, 2018. It was renewed without public knowledge or consultation.”
