Vytjie Mentor: Jessie Duarte sent me an SMS, things are starting to brew
Though Mantashe only took her call in 2014, Mentor claims Duarte seems to be coming around and finally contacted her last week.

The ANC top six is starting to be divided, and Jessie Duarte is now starting to see the light, according to former ANC MP Vytjie Mentor. Probably the ANC’s biggest critic right now, Mentor shared on social media that she went to Luthuli House in 2007 and 2008 to request that ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe and his deputy, Jessie Duarte, withdraw her from parliament.
Mentor was the parliamentary caucus chairperson during Thabo Mbeki’s presidency.
She said she did not agree with then deputy president Jacob Zuma’s leadership and the corruption that was happening in the Northern Cape.
“I phoned and SMSed them from 2010 – 2016 to bring to their attention wrongdoing. In 2014, Gwede took my call. In 2016, Jessie returned my SMS promising a meeting when she came to Cape Town, that never happened,” she said.
But all that changed last week on Freedom Day after Mentor claimed to have received a message from the deputy secretary-general. Mentor said it was sign that things in the ANC were starting to “brew” and sarcastically said she felt sorry that Duarte was booed by workers who called for the president to step down at a rally in Limpopo on Monday.
