Wet weekend predicted for Gauteng

Severe thunderstorms have been predicted for Friday in Pretoria and Johannesburg, with tentative flood warnings being issued.


Get your warm blankets and umbrellas ready – a wet, chilly weekend has been predicted by the SA weather service, reports Centurion Rekord.

“A warning for severe thunderstorms associated with rain which will result in flooding has been issued for Friday,” said forecaster Lulama Pheme.

He said Friday was expected to be cloudy with on and off scattered showers and thundershowers throughout the day.

Temperatures were expected to reach a maximum of 23°C on Friday in Pretoria, with a maximum of 20°C expected in Johannesburg.

Pheme said Saturday would be cloudy in the morning with a 30 percent chance of showers in Pretoria, with Johannesburg seeing partly cloudy and rainy conditions, with a high of 21°C.

“We are expecting a minimum of 15°C and a maximum of 23°C on Saturday, clouds are expected to clear in the afternoon,” he said.

Temperatures were expected to peak at 23°C from a minimum of 14°C on Sunday in Johannesburg.

Pheme said it would be partly cloudy on Sunday morning with some fog patches.
