Zuma’s chief protector has a ‘fake matric’ – report

The 'Zuma man' in charge of security for the president, his cabinet, premiers and MECs reportedly claimed this week someone is trying to bewitch him.

City Press reports it has seen documents from the screening process of King Ngcobo suggesting he may have lied about having a matric certificate before being appointed the head of VIP protection services.

Many within the SAPS have alleged that the matric certificate he submitted to qualify for his job as the man overseeing the security of South Africa’s top officials is fake.

Two sources the paper spoke to allege an investigation of the matter was dropped before completion. Ngcobo allegedly claims on his CV to have joined the SAPS as a constable in March 1995, but also passed matric in KwaZulu-Natal that same year, which is thought not to be possible unless he was doing so through correspondence.

“It is alleged that he could not explain” this timeline, according to the report. On a handwritten government employment form, the 52-year-old allegedly claimed to have passed matric in 1982, which is potentially a massive contradiction of his own submissions.

Ngcobo insisted to the paper that he did have matric.

He admitted to the paper that he was aware of his reputation as a “Zuma man”, but people were merely jealous of his success. He reportedly even went as far as alleging that people had been attempting to bewitch him.

The police spokesperson reportedly said that the allegation would be dealt with internally in the police service “according to prescripts”.
