The victim was initially shot in the chest by two men, but the men returned and shot him twice in the face, said paramedics.

A taxi driver was shot and killed during an apparent shootout in Centurion on Wednesday afternoon.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russell Meiring the shooting happened on the corner of Hendrik Verwoerd Drive and Old Johannesburg Road, Rekord Centurion reported.

“When paramedics arrived on the scene, they found a man lying on the grass, a few metres away from his taxi. The victim was assessed and found that he had sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and head. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the man, and he was declared dead on the scene,” he said.

Meiring said no other injuries or fatalities were found on the scene.

“Local authorities were on the scene to begin their investigations.”

Centurion Concerned Citizen spokesperson Hannes Du Buisson said the shooting happened just before 5pm.

“According to an eyewitness, the victim was initially shot in the chest by two men, however, the men returned and shot him twice in the face before they fled.”

Buisson said the two men left the scene with the victim’s firearm.
