Three top PSL buys

The January transfer window started with a bang, with PSL clubs making their intentions known about the players they want to bring on board.

Kaizer Chiefs have been vocal about the players they want. Previously they avoided this, according to their football manager Bobby Motaung, because teams triple the figures whenever Chiefs want a particular player. With just two weeks left before the window closes, The Citizen looks at three confirmed moves.

Lebogang Manyama (Ajax to SuperSport)

SuperSport have signed a gem. The tenacious Manyama, an attacking midfielder with a high work-rate, would fit into any coach’s plans. He has been a vital cog in the Urban Warriors’ side, especially after the departure of Thulani Serero. When Serero left for mother club Ajax Amsterdam, Ajax looked thin at No 10. But as Manyama matured, he made them tick. He should be a good acquisition for Cavin Johnson’s side given their style of play.

Katlego Mphela (Sundowns to Chiefs)

Mphela could be Chiefs’ best signing in a long time. He is a complete, established striker at club and international level and, with 23 goals, the country’s third highest goalscorer of all time after Benni McCarthy and Shaun Bartlett. Chiefs are still negotiating an early release from Sundowns as the player has only signed a pre-contract which would make him a Chiefs player on July 1. He has not enjoyed a good stay at Sundowns this season and there’s a possibility he would want to make up for lost time.

Thulani Hlatshwayo (Ajax to Wits)

A hard-tackling defender who plays with gusto, Hlatshwayo is a good acquisition for Gavin Hunt’s side. Wits have not had the best defence in the PSL and signing Hlatshwayo shows their intentions of making sure they do not continue conceding goals. Hlatshwayo signed a pre-contract with the Clever Boys and his move is likely to cripple his former side Ajax.

He was also on Orlando Pirates’ radar for some time but he opted for a lower-profile side.
