- King Shaka Visitor Centre

King Shaka, one of the country’s most outstanding military leaders, founded the town of KwaDukuza almost 200 years ago and became the well-respected ruler of the land. The King Shaka Visitor’s Centre in KwaDukuza serves as a memorial and was erected on the site of King Shaka’s grave in 1932. 2.Luthuli Museum

Visit the Luthuli Museum and sit in the very spot where the former African National Congress president-general and Nobel Peace Laureate sat in conversation with New York senator, Robert F Kennedy on June 8, 1966. 3. Umkhosi weLembe

Spears clash, warriors collide and the dust dances to the rhythmic beat of a drum, leading hundreds of Zulus in the ‘zokugiya’, a traditional Zulu dance. Heritage Day in KwaZulu-Natal is not complete without Umkhosi weLembe (previously known as King Shaka Day). This year’s event will be held at the KwaDukuza sports grounds on September 24. Thousands support the annual event.

9. Feel the rush

Sugar Rush Park is a popular destination for a variety of fun activities. These include: a play area, putt putt, miniature train rides, restaurant, tree trails, Holla Trails, Craftopia, Unicorn Slime, Ndlondlo Reptile Park, Jump Park and Laser Tag. 10. Hole in the wall

Thompson’s Bay is one of the most beautiful of the region’s swimming beaches. Walk through the ‘hole in the wall’ to discover a number of picturesque coves, made striking by the limestone rock formations. The tidal pool and ‘hole in the wall’ make this spot quite special.
11. Experience adventure

Just 15km inland of Ballito, Adventure Valley offers a 1.5km zipline tour. The “Parazip” is a guided adventure suitable for ages 5 to 85. It enables you to slide down a 400-metre cable with a parachute attached to you. Adventure Valley also offers “Discover Scuba Diving” in a 700 000-litre scuba pool. 12. Take a dip

The tidal pool at Chaka’s Rock just north of the beach is perfect for first-time snorkellers and children. It is safe, calm and easy to access. Thompson’s Bay tidal pool is another ideal spot with an array of marine life. Further north, Sheffield Beach with its plethora of rock pools, is one of the best spots for snorkelling in KZN.
