There is light at the end of the tunnel for five-year-old Catie Mallandain who was diagnosed with an illness that jeopardised her eyesight at just three years old.
Catie suffers from Crouzon Syndrome – an illness caused by pressure on the brain which resulted in damage to her optic nerves, limiting her eyesight.
Her family were ecstatic when they received news that she had been accepted as a candidate for treatment in Berlin at the Fedorov Restore Vision Clinic, where cutting edge technology is used to restore sight.
To help with the high cost of the procedure, travel, and medical follow-ups, the family at Linc Church in Salt Rock held a fundraiser last Friday with popular indie folk artist Majozi.

People from all walks of life showed up in numbers to enjoy a cool evening on the deck, paired with pizza, laughter and loads of chatter.
Speaking to the Courier, Catie’s mother Cary, said she was overwhelmed by the support.
“I did not know this event was being planned and we are so blessed to have everyone’s support. We will leave for Berlin in a week and any additional money raised will be put into a trust fund. The fund will help Catie with follow-up treatments when she is older.”
