Scouts, cubs and pooches at Ballito Scouts’ first Pooch Picnic fundraiser

The volunteer organisation is a new group of scouts who are raising funds for four large tents for their camping programme.

Get your picnic blanket out and gather your pooches for the 1st Ballito Scouts’ Pooch Picnic fundraiser on April 27 from 12-5pm at Scouts Hall, Townsend Park.

The volunteer organisation is a new group of scouts who are raising funds for four large tents for their camping programme.

The group of moms who are putting together the fabulous pooch picnic family day are passionate about their children learning the values and skills of being a scout according to Kim Tabori.

“Scouts is a fantastic global organisation with over 38 million members. Scouting aims to support young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, so that they may play constructive roles in society, with a strong focus on the outdoors, survival and practical life skills,” said Tabori.

She said scouting has been open to boys and girls since 2000, with cubs starting from age seven to ten, while scouts are for children from 11 to 17 years old.

“I see the scouting programme grow my kids each week – they are learning exciting new skills that will benefit them throughout their lives while having fun. My daughter is a nine-year-old cub and she sews her own badges on her uniform, grows vegetables, is working towards her art and chess badges and so much more.

“My son is a 13-year-old scout and he has learnt compass and map skills, knots, camping skills, tracking and social responsibility. All of this over a period of 17 months. Imagine what they would have learned by the time they are 17!”

The fundraiser day will see a range of activities including a fun pooch parade, pooch training demonstration, obstacle course, gift stores for the doggies, food stalls and a SPCA donation table where the community can drop off kids books and clothing.

“Bring a blanket or camping chair and support us by purchasing from our food stalls for your picnic.”
