Popular Ballito singer ready to release his first single
James Freedom started singing in primary school and his music has gone from strength to strength.
Ballito’s soft rock artist, James Freedom, will soon release his first single before working on his first album.
“Far Away” is a song about a girl that he liked but never got to tell her how he felt.
“A few years back, I was in rehab for four months and there was a girl that worked at the rehab. I liked her a lot but never had the courage to tell her. She ended up leaving the rehab and got a job somewhere else. Besides that I was not in a good state to approach a girl because I had to fix myself first.”
The 29-year-old musician was in rehab because he went through a tough time and started drinking too much.
He said rehab gave him the opportunity to pull himself together. Freedom started singing in primary school and his music has gone from strength to strength.
“Music is like nutrition to the soul. It makes you feel something that cannot be described.”
His career received a big boost after entering the 2016 The Voice South Africa (a reality singing competition). He reached the top 56 before he was knocked out by the winner, Richard Stirton.
“I have written about 15 songs but I feel I need to release a single first, because I don’t know how people will react to my music. It is a very different ball game when people are used to hearing you singing other people’s songs and hearing you singing your own songs.”
The six string guitarist said his guitar was very close to his heart and he would never sell it or stop playing it.
“It was given to me by a lady who used to watch me perform and the guitar belonged to her late husband. She gave me the guitar and she also passed on a year later. I will always keep it by my side.”
