“It is a momentous occasion for us – Danielle Boshoff is the top student in the world for Afrikaans as a second language, and Physical Science. This is a phenomenal achievement,” said Van Buuren.

Sashna, a 2020 Cambridge IGCSE pupil scored 98% for Accounting, and her other marks were just as impressive!

In Mathematics Sashna scored 98%, followed by Physical Science at 97%, Afrikaans at 95%, English at 94% and Business Studies at 92%.

‘Top student in the world’ has a certain ring to it, as it should owing to more than 140 countries and 4 500 schools having written these exams, but Danielle claimed the title for herself with Afrikaans as a second language with 99%.

“To achieve this in one subject is amazing, but in two subjects is simply extraordinary,” said Van Buuren.

Danielle also achieved an amazing 98% for Physical Science, 97% for Accounting, 98% for Biology, 96% for Mathematics and 92% for English.

Dedication and commitment to assisting students in achieving excellence is evident every day, and more so when results are released.

Highlighting that 80% of the preparation for the exams were done online during the Covid-19 lockdown, Van Buuren said they were overjoyed to have IGCSE students achieve a 100% pass rate, with an average of 5 distinctions per student and all students maintaining marks above 73%.

“I am so proud of the students and the teachers for the hours of work they put in during 2020, it certainly paid off with every subject returning an average of 80% and above,” concluded Mark Charlesworth, Academic Head of the Senior College.
